How Anyone Can Build A Pipeline Of Ongoing Residual Income In The New Economy?
This is a story by Burke Hedges that illustrates the difference between being a business owner and being either employed or self-employed.
Buckets and Pipelines
The story concerns two friends Pablo and Bruno, who lived in a small Italian village. They were always looking for an opportunity to make their fortune. The two friends were given the job of supplying their village with water, by carrying buckets from the river.
After the first day, Pablo was exhausted, his back and arms ached. So he resolved to find a better way and decided he'd build a pipeline from the stream to the village. He shared his vision with his friend, who laughed and said he was crazy.
But Pablo was sure he was right -- he would work part of each day carrying buckets and the rest plus weekends on his pipeline.
Bruno was now beginning to feel unhappy with his lot. He realised that he was doomed to carry buckets for the rest of his life.
Then came the day that Pablo's pipeline was completed and water flowed into the village cistern. Pablo earned his money whether he worked or not. Bruno was put out of work by the new pipeline. He could earn nothing.
For Pablo, this was merely the first step -- he planned to repeat the exercise in other villages. He shared his dream with his old friend and finally Bruno saw the light. They began to build pipelines together.
Many years passed and finally they retired, but their worldwide pipeline business continued to pump money into their bank accounts, giving them and their families a security of income and wealth that wouldn't have been possible if they were still carrying buckets.
As Burke Hedges says, pipelines are lifelines. If you want security of income and independence from your own human frailty, then this is the only way to go.
So, are you carrying buckets for a living or are you building pipelines for a lifestyle?
